Robert Half Assistant Controller in New York, New York

Description We are looking for an Assistant Controller, located in New York, New York. The role involves a range of financial responsibilities within the higher education sector. The Assistant Controller will be expected to prepare fiscal year-end financial statements and provide informative reports to executive management and the trustees. This role offers a contract to hire employment opportunity.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare monthly financial reports for review

• Oversee accounting for the endowment and other component units of the institution, including student housing corporation

• Maintain familiarity with changes in law or regulations pertaining to the administration of College or endowment funds

• Assume responsibility for cash management activities, including daily cash management and monthly cash/investment reporting

• Write and revise policies and procedures as necessary, and interface at all levels of the organization

• Continuously assess internal controls as they relate to business functions throughout the College and its component units

• Demonstrate knowledge of GAAP, GASB, FASB, auditing, fixed asset accounting, and tax filing requirements

• Function as the primary contact and liaison with the institution's outside auditors

• Process customer credit applications accurately and efficiently

• Maintain accurate customer credit records. Requirements • Must have at least 7 years of experience in a similar role as an Assistant Controller.

• Proficiency in Accounting Software Systems is mandatory.

• Experience in ADP - Financial Services is a must.

• Knowledge and expertise in ERP - Enterprise Resource Planning and ERP Solutions.

• Familiarity with Great Plains (GPAC) is required.

• Must have a strong understanding of Accounting Functions.

• Experience in managing Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR).

• Must have a strong background in Auditing.

• Experience in Budget Processes is required.

• Knowledge of Audit Methodology, Audit PBC lists, Audit Plans, Audit Prep, Audit Reports, Audit Program, Audit Requests, Audit Reviews, Audit Schedules, Audit Standards, Audit Techniques, Audit Tests, and Audit Workpapers is essential.

• Experience in preparing Audited Financial Statements is necessary.

• Must have a thorough understanding of GASB and FASB.

• Knowledge of FASB - Financial Acctg Standards Brd is required.

• Experience in Educational Institutions is a plus.

• Must be proficient in Account Analysis.

• Experience in handling Check Runs and Checklists is necessary.
