NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing Foreperson Refrigeration Engineer in New York, New York

Position Summary

SHIFT: Monday - Friday 7:00AM - 3:30PM

Install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair combined heating, ventilation and cooling systems and connected equipment to perform safely and efficiently; perform preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance duties and routines. Perform hands-on maintenance of chillers: including centrifugals, absorbers, and other air and water cooled large tonnage chillers and related equipment. Troubleshoot and perform repairs of small tonnage air handlers across campus; including water cooled and DX package units, heat pumps, fan coil units, chilled water cooled air handlers and associated duct distribution, VAV's, reheats, and dampers. Make minor alterations to mechanical equipment as required. Promote and adhere to a safety first culture in carrying out their duties. Supervise work for quality, productivity, and thoroughness of all HVAC Shop Refrigeration Engineer and contractor work assignments. Prioritize and distribute written work orders. Manage resources of manpower, tools and materials efficiently to complete jobs within the allotted schedule and budget. Complete assigned tasks safely and efficiently utilizing good work practice as part of a maintenance team or working independently with minimal supervision. Perform advanced troubleshooting and diagnosis on equipment, systems and controls. Correct and repair mechanical, electrical and instrumentation faults on equipment. Understand how to troubleshoot equipment faults/failures and identify root causes of recurring client HVAC complaints. Must be able to communicate effectively on e-mail, radio and via phone. Repairs and maintains machinery, mechanical and electrical equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operating manuals, manufacturers' specifications or supervisor s instructions, using hand and power tools, precision measuring or testing devices. Observes calibrates, troubleshoots and adjusts a wide variety of control valves, transmitters, and various instrumentation and control devices to assure proper operation and repair. Assists in the scoping, planning and schedule of shutdowns and repairs. Orders supplies and replacement parts used as required and directed. Responds to emergencies and determines corrective actions using available resources. Performs other duties as determined and assigned by their supervisor. Uses judgment to arrive at accurate decisions regarding the most efficient means of accomplishing tasks. Perform quality control inspections to assure completion of the work in accordance with job specifications, standards and direction.

Qualifications

Required Education:High School Diploma or equivalentPreferred Education:Trade School or other Post-Elementary EducationRequired Experience:5 years relevant experiencePreferred Experience:7 years relevant experience with at least 3 years of progressive supervisory experienceRequired Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Knowledge of DX, condenser water, and chilled water systems, equipment and instrumentation and controls, proper operating conditions and parameters. Knowledge of maintenance routines, codes, standards, fire and life safety procedures and current CFC regulations. Working knowledge of refrigeration cycle, common parts, pneumatic/electric/electronic control systems; basic knowledge/skills in brazing, soldering, insulation, measuring, wire pulling, carpentry and sheet metal. Thorough knowledge of the safe operation of hand tools, power tools, rigging equipment. Ability to climb ladders up to 24', perform work safely on 'cherry picker', work in confined spaces or under extreme environmental conditions. Good written and verbal communications skills, good interpersonal skills. Working knowledge/familiarity with computer applications such as email, Microsoft Word, and Excel. Positive attitude, willingness to collaborate and team with others to accomplish work efficiently and to high quality standards. Strong experience with various automated BMS control systems, including reading and changing logic settings.Essential Requirements of the Position: - Must be able to tolerate working in high temperature working environment and working in relatively confined areas. - Proficient in English (e.g. reading directions and instructions written in English).- Ability to work in hot or cold conditions (with proper personal protective equipment); work in confined space, etc.- Adequate ability to discern colors for monitoring alarm conditions on computer screens.-Ability to wear and work while wearing a full-face respirator.-Ability to lift 50 pounds.- Work involves moving or lifting of equipment, materials, and tools.-Climbing extension ladders, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or movement within confined areas including equipment, crawl and attic spaces.-Must be willing and able to work in all buildings or out of doors in all seasons. Near visual acuity for reading instructions, manual specifications, etc.,

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate for this position is USD $52.397. This rate is based on bargaining unit contracts.
