Position Title: Surgical Coding Supervisor

Location: Remote

Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Surgical Coding Supervisor to join our team. The Surgical Coding Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing and managing the surgical coding operations within our organization, including profee coding. This individual will play a critical role in ensuring accurate and compliant coding practices, maximizing revenue, and maintaining high-quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and lead a team of surgical coders, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure productivity and accuracy, including in profee coding. Maintain coding accuracy of at least 95%.

  • Review surgical coding documentation for accuracy and completeness, identifying discrepancies and taking corrective actions as needed.

  • Stay abreast of changes in coding guidelines, regulations, and compliance requirements related to surgical procedures.

  • Develop and implement coding policies, procedures, and best practices to optimize efficiency and compliance.

  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, surgeons, and other stakeholders to resolve coding-related issues and improve documentation practices.

  • Conduct regular audits and quality assurance checks to monitor coding accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Analyze coding data and performance metrics to identify trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities for revenue enhancement.

  • Serve as a resource for coding inquiries and provide expertise to support decision-making and problem-solving in both facility and profee settings.

  • Foster a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement within the coding department.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification required; additional certification in surgical coding (e.g., CPC-H) preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in surgical coding, with demonstrated proficiency in CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems, including profee coding.

  • Previous experience in hospitalist coding is highly desirable.

  • Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role preferred.

  • In-depth knowledge of surgical procedures, terminology, and documentation requirements for both facility and profee services.

  • Strong understanding of coding compliance regulations, including CMS guidelines and HIPAA regulations, applicable to both facility and profee coding.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders.

  • Proficient in using coding software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail. Ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
