Description of Duties

This professional position, located at the Department of Finance – Office of the Controller, assists with the management and supervision of accounting functions of the office and prepares financial reports and statements. The employee is responsible for maintaining an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) financial system, fund trial balances, subsidiary ledgers, payroll operations, accounts receivable, and accounts payable. The employee reports to, and works under the general of, the Controller or Deputy Controller with considerable latitude for independent judgement. General supervision is exercised over a staff of professional accounting and clerical employees. Does related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus, EITHER:

  • Graduation with a Master’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration with successful completion of at least fifteen (15) credit hours in Accounting**, plus three (3) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in accounting, auditing, managerial or municipal fund accounting, all of which included preparing financial statements, two (2) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; OR,

  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration with successful completion of at least fifteen (15) credit hours in Accounting**, plus five (5) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in accounting, auditing, managerial or municipal fund accounting, all of which included preparing financial statements, two (2) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; OR,

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.

    **Candidates qualifying under (A) and (B) above must submit a student or unofficial copy of their college transcript along with their applications.

    NOTES : Certification as a Public Accountant (CPA) issued by the State of New York may be substituted for two (2) years of experience.
